Platelet rich plasma (PRP) is a regenerative medicine therapy that aids in tissue healing. PRP has been shown to be effective in managing many orthopedic conditions, including osteoarthritis as well as tendon and ligament (soft tissue) injuries.
Your dog’s own blood is utilized to make platelet rich plasma. It is a minimally invasive procedure and the PRP is prepared on site. PRP is injected into an injured joint, tendon or ligament. It requires light sedation, is minimally invasive and can be performed on an outpatient basis. Your dog may require one or more injections depending on the severity of their condition. The pain relieving and tissue healing effects of PRP can last anywhere up to 6 months.
